Equine holiday

Grace Guino (grace@khaleejtimes.com) / 19 May 2013

After the busy horse racing season, it’s time for the horses to put their hoofs up.

A visit to three stables, Red Stable, Dubai Stable and Oasis 1 Stable — where many of Dubai’s racing horses train — will show that the horses undergo a relaxed training regime ‘off season’ during the horses’ holidays. For a couple of months their daily exercise consists of walking in the morning. Trainers also take them to swimming as this is an ideal alternative for running, especially for those with swollen feet. After this, the horses are brought back to their stables and they spend the rest of the day resting and munching on the alfalfa hay imported from America. I’ve shot several horse at races but I’ve never seen their friendly side,”
