With just over a fortnight left for the UAE's 45th National Day on December 2, the country has started preparations for the grand celebration.
As part of this, Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, reviewed suggestions from top officials, Youth Council members and prominent media figures during a brainstorming session organised at the Dubai Design District on Wednesday.
The focus of the meeting was "absorbing good ideas from different influential segments of society" to make the National Day innovative and engaging for residents as well as the visitors.
Shaikh Nahyan held discussions with each group to understand their individual plan for the upcoming celebrations. He also met group of school children present at the event and appreciated the quilling art pieces made by them.
Addressing the participants, Shaikh Nahyan said: "Your presence today in this ceremony ref-lects our strong conviction that the National Day celebration is an expression of our pride in our precious country and its enormous achievements in all fields. It is also an honest expression of our pride in our values and what the country represents, being a modern and unique example of tolerance, coexistence and development. It also reflects our glorious past, prosperous and successful present, bright and promising future."
He highlighted the role of the youth and other groups in the nation's development. He said the celebrations will be on par with other parts of the world.
Shaikh Nahyan added: "The importance of this cherished occasion reminds us of many memories, making us thank God Almighty and makes us work hard constantly for its progress and development."
Jawaher Almehairi, member of Dubai Youth Council, told Khaleej Times: "Members from different emirates are present here today to come up with catchy suggestions so that we can promote UAE's culture, and attract participation from the youth of the nation. We have given an idea of making a 3D video on the journey of the UAE and we are trying to involve Emirati youth studying out of the country to join in.
She added: "The idea is to promote the UAE's National Day outside the country, as well. The movie will be played at airports, malls and every possible public platform where we can showcase our love for the country and engage people in knowing more about the culture."
