RAK teacher bags Dh1m innovative award

 Ebtisam Ahmad Al Shemeili of Ro'ya school in Ras Al Khaimah bagged the first Dh1-million Emirates Innovative Teacher award on the opening day of the World Government Summit on Monday. Al Shemeili, who has been a teacher for the past 13 years, received the coveted award from His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Al Shameili, a physics teacher, is well-known for her innovations and has worked on projects like clean energy and fire safety.The Ministry of Education and GEMS Education launched the award to raise the stature of the teaching profession.In addition to Al Shemeili, four other teachers bagged Dh500,000 each.Nora Al Shehi, one of the runners-up, told Khaleej Times that in her career, she has tried to make the teaching process interesting for students. "I am a physics teacher and have tried to change physics into art. I have taught my students by using illustrations," said the grade 12 teacher from Ras Al Khaimah.
The other winners were Hiam Al Berhani from Fujairah, Amna Zaabi from Ras Al Khaimah and Nadia Al Kaabi from Al Ain.
They were chosen by a prominent jury comprising leading minds in education and government bodies in the UAE who were chosen by the Ministry of Education.
Teachers were adjudged on performance and achievement; innovation; development and professional development; community and professional responsibility.
