YouTube has announced the launch of the first edition of The Lantern, an award that recognises creative advertisement campaigns created in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) during the Holy month of Ramadan.
The Lantern is set to look for the most impactful commercial offered by the region's creative agencies, media agencies and advertisers.
This award will illustrate and highlight the region's versatile creative works during one of the advertising industry's most anticipated month of the year.
"This award is of great significance because it underlines and celebrates the values of the holy month and will be a great portrait of the region's generous heart," says Alex Brunori, Head of Creative Agencies for Google in Mena
"This is the first edition of The Lantern, and we hope to build the success of this new award in the upcoming years."
At the end of the month-long observatory period, the winning video will be determined using an algorithm based on engagement and views that the commercial has garnered.
These commercials will be ranked by a microsite developed for the competition. The winning video, agencies and advertisers will be announced after Ramadan.
Google experts will assist agencies as well as clients throughout the competition.
