The UAE Water Aid Foundation has started six projects to provide safe drinking water in five countries in implementation of a memorandum of understanding, MoU, signed with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment.
The five-year MoU enhances cooperation between the two sides to help developing and needy countries by providing safe drinking water and facilitating collaboration to implement joint humanitarian initiatives and projects that serve the strategic objectives of both organisations. This raises their social roles within an established framework and set methodologies. The MoU helps both organisations to effectively utilise their potential and existing resources to address water scarcity.
"We are working with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment on water-well projects in Somalia, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Ghana, and Benin. These efforts support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the UAE's position globally and participate in initiatives and humanitarian aid to improve the living conditions of the poor and affected communities in various countries, and achieve the sustainable development for all mankind," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation
Al Tayer commended the efforts of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, whose humanitarian services extend beyond Dubai and the UAE to help the needy around the world. These efforts have established the UAE's global position in humanitarian initiatives and aid.
The UAE has an effective role in the international efforts to combat humanitarian challenges and has a strong presence in the areas of humanitarian aid, and emergency and long-term aid in across the world.
"The MoU between the UAE Water Aid and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment supports the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. His Highness is the patron of the Establishment, which encourages teamwork in all areas. This includes charitable and humanitarian activities, which are key to serving humanity and are rewarded by Allah," said Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dubai Ruler's Advisor for Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment.
"Carrying out the water projects in the selected countries is part of the MoU signed with the UAE Water Aid Foundation. This will contribute to providing clean potable water to citizens there and will have positive effects in promoting security and stability. These countries have been carefully selected as they are the areas in most need of water projects because they suffer from drought and water scarcity," he added.
"These projects support the Foundation's efforts which have developed solutions for water shortage in a number of countries by implementing projects to provide clean drinking water. Such projects contribute to spreading peace, stability, and coexistence among people. They also contribute to the development of these countries," noted Bu Melha.
"We collaborate with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment on projects to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world. We support studies and research to develop solutions for water production using solar power.
We also finance and support water technology projects to combat drought. The UAE Water Aid Foundation has started working on six joint projects to provide safe drinking water in five countries. These are Somalia, Tajikistan, Ghana, Benin, and Afghanistan. Around 60,000 people will benefit from these projects," said Mohammed Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the UAE Water Aid Foundation.
