The SmartCUP tournament recently gathered blue and white-collared employees to bond over a game of cricket. The one-day charity event, held at Sprite Insportz in Al Quoz, was initiated by SmartLife, which is a non-profit, non-government organisation that works towards the betterment of the blue-collar society.
Twenty teams comprising 80 corporate employees and 100 blue-collar employees came together to support and play cricket for a cause. The funds generated from the event further supported an educational initiative under SmartLife called Project Sapna.
Project Sapna (dream) focuses on the education of children of blue-collared employees. It aims to fulfil dreams of blue-collared employees by funding and mentoring their children in their home countries.
While Dulsco team emerged as the overall winner, Kier Dubai and DHL Express were the first and second runner-up, respectively. It was Mashreq that won the "Played for the Cause" trophy. Teams and spectators were entertained by SmartBand, a resident music group from SmartLife that added flavour to a hearty day of cricket and altruism.
