Renowned Pakistani folk singer Shaukat Ali is recuperating at Abu Dhabi's Mafraq Hospital, where he underwent an angioplasty, after collapsing at the airport.
Ali was in a four-hour transit at the Abu Dhabi International Airport on Wednesday on his way from Lahore to New York on an Etihad Airways flight when he felt severe chest pain. Later, he collapsed, upon which he was immediately transferred to Mafraq Hospital in an ambulance.
Doctors at the hospital gave him first aid, and later, an angioplasty was performed successfully.
The news of Shaukat Ali's illness spread all over, after television channels broke the story. Doctors said he is recovering fast and he will be allowed to travel within a day or two.
Deputy head of mission at Pakistan Embassy Dr Faisal Ahmed and commercial counselor Habib Ahmed visited the singer at the hospital. Shaukat Ali has cancelled his trip to the United States and will be traveling back home.-
