Over 4,000 contestants are participating in this year's Camp ka Champ singing competition, an initiative aimed at bringing smiles on the faces of thousands of labourers across the UAE.
The contest has grown multi-fold since its inception in 2007 - from just three participating companies to 24.
The ninth edition of the 'Western Union Camp Ka Champ' presented by du was launched on July 23 this year covering 140 labour accommodations. Over 4,000 contestants will be auditioned across the UAE.
Rupa Vinod, Managing Director, Right Track Advertising and contest organisers, said: "The Western Union Camp Ka Champ Season 9 has commenced on a very positive note with an array of highly talented singers participating at the auditions. The competition is going to be stiff and extremely tough. During the finals, on October 22, one 2-member team will emerge as the 'Champs of the Camp' and win the coveted trophy. This season has several enhancements in the form of significant rewards and dedicated websites aimed at increasing participation."
"The contest is now serious and much anticipated for thousands of people, both as participants and as audience," said Marc Aubry, Vice-President Marketing at Western Union. We know our customers work hard to support their family and friends back home and Western Union Camp ka Champ has been working equally hard to give them a platform that brings out their singing talent in a fun and entertaining way. The progress of this initiative over the years is a game changer in every sense, and we expect this year's contest will continue to touch the hearts of the thousands of workers in UAE."
"The labour community is a valuable part of our society, and it is one without which we would not be able to enjoy the beauty of the Dubai skyline. We are thrilled to offer our support to such an engaging community initiative that will definitely put smiles on the faces of thousands," said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du.
The winners will walk away with a Dh50,000 cash prize from du, gold from Western Union, electronics from Geepas, air tickets from Air Arabia and much more.
This season will be brought to an audience outside the labour community. Listeners can tune into Radio 4 - 89.1FM and participate in this special event from September onwards.
