Emirati graduates still prefer government sector jobs

Dubai - The survey conducted by TASC Outsourcing presents the current outlook of job trends, preferences and issues of the young Emirati population in the country.

 Eight out of 10 fresh Emirati graduates prefer working in the government sector compared to the private sector, according to a recently concluded survey. Flexible work hours, quality of medical services provided by the employer, number of holidays, flexibility of working from home and the overall work environment of the organisation are some of the major factors graduates would factor in while looking for a job.
The survey conducted by TASC Outsourcing presents the current outlook of job trends, preferences and issues of the young Emirati population in the country. It provides an in-depth understanding of what graduates are most likely to do when they have completed their education, how confident they are about finding a job, what sector and industry they would prefer to work in and the salaries they expect to start out with.
The survey was conducted during two career exhibitions held recently - Tawdheef, the leading recruitment event for Emiratis held in Abu Dhabi and the National Career Exhibition in Sharjah. As many 370 Emirati graduates from across the UAE participated.
The survey reveals that 52 per cent of the respondents were very optimistic in finding a job right after completing their education. In terms of industry-wise preference, 22 per cent of the respondents want to be employed in a government-owned entity, 12 per cent want to be employed in the Information Technology sector. Retail and sales, education and fashion were the other sectors.
While majority of the sample, at 80 per cent, plans to look for a job after graduation, respondents are ambitious with 65 per cent seeking managerial roles with a responsibility for a team of people; 28 per cent feel there is intense competition for jobs which acts as a hurdle.
