Emirates has launched its first photography and creative writing competition as part of the build-up to the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in March 2016.
The "Capture 380" competition will see participants try their best to use words and images to illustrate next year's festival theme of "time."
"This competition builds on our efforts to find meaningful ways to connect and engage with the local community in our home base of the UAE, and inspire young people to think creatively, especially when it comes to their own travel aspirations," said Shaikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates Division Vice President, Commercial Operations." "We are confident that the competition will attract a good response," he added.
Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation and Festival Director, said that the competition provides a unique opportunity for contestants to express themselves.
"I am so excited about this new competition which mixes two mediums, photography, which has such a visual impact on us, and words, which have immense power to affect us at various levels," she said. Those wishing to participate are required to submit an original photo by January 10 along with 380-word prose or poetry that interpret the image.
The competition is open to UAE nationals and residents aged 14 to 25. Winners in the English and Arabic-language categories will win four tickets to any Emirates A380 destination of their choice.
Short-listed participants and winners will be announced at the Festival of Literature that takes place from March 1 to 12.
