Dental implant symposium concludes

DUBAI - World renowned lecturers from Europe, USA, India and Arab countries participated in the Dental Implant Symposium that was concluded on April 15.

The two-day event, organised by the Study Club of Oral Implantology (SCOI), discussed issues pertaining to dental medicine including replacement of lost teeth by dental titanium implants. Dental implants are the only available treatment method that helps patients with missing teeth to recover function and esthetics naturally without jeopardising the remaining teeth.

A special pre-congress session of one full day was organised by medical International UAE, distributor of the Swedish Astra Zeneca's and Astra Dental Implant System for the Gulf and Middle East.

Dr Stig Hansson from Sweden, Professor Beberi and Dr George Eid from Lebanon presented modules including training on artificial bone and live surgeries besides basic and advanced theoretical sessions.

Dr Souheil Hussaini, Chairman of the SCOI said: "The latter half of the 20th century saw dramatic changes in implant dentistry. A modern era of dental implant application was ushered in by the advent and promulgation of the osseointegration concept with success predictability for endosseous implants in human patients".

"Currently, several ongoing and exciting new initiatives continue to increase our large membership base. As the study club grows in size, its influence on the national dental implant community amplifies. The board of directors thanks all the people who shared in the process of developing and contributing to the study club's past, present, and future systemic growth," he added.

Speaking about the SCOI's fabulous main action plans, he added the they would include inviting and providing international lecturers, electronic newsletter, implant dentistry 300 credit hour curriculum, research awards, among others.

"The previously mentioned upcoming curriculum includes essential information for understanding the clinical application for implant dentistry.
