Dubai is gearing up for the regional premiere and global release of the third installment of Star Trek - Star Trek Beyond - which showcases the emirate's futuristic landscape as an integral element in the film.
The film's local premiere, which will be attended by senior officials and media figures, celebrities, filmmakers, and social media influencers, will be held on July 19 at Novo Cinemas in Ibn Battuta Mall to mark the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.
As part of the movie's filming, the 13-day principal photography took place over the course of 13 days in October 2015, and saw the crew and cast head to various parts of Dubai, including the Burj Al Arab, Al Mas Tower in Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, Central Park in DIFC, Meydan, and the Sound Stages of Dubai Studio City.
By all accounts, the crew was impressed with Dubai as a filming location. "We'd drive around Dubai and look at things. I'd see a building and say, 'We have to figure out how to put that in our movie'," Star Trek producer Jeffrey Chernov said at a news conference.
Jamal Al Sharif, Chairman of the Dubai Film and TV Commission and Managing Director of Dubai Studio City, said: "The fact that Dubai was chosen for the filming of a major science fiction production like Star Trek Beyond highlights the emirate's unique and varied scenic locations."
