In a matter of minutes, an Indian family's fate was put at stake following a fire that destroyed their apartment in Al Khail Gate.
It was a normal day for Marium Ghandi, 30, her mother Sherin, 57, and her 3-month-old baby girl until a gas explosion destroyed their apartment. The two Indian women were transferred to the resuscitation section of Rashid Hospital in a "very critical" condition, before being shifted to the ICU with serious burns.
While they struggle for life, the baby suffered minor injuries as she was moved to Latifa Hospital.  Yousuf Siraj. a family relative, confirmed her condition is stabilised. He added that he received a call from his cousin- and Ghandi's husband - Hussain Anwar.
Speaking to Khaleej Times at Rashid Hospital, Siraj said "we rushed to the hospital immediately after the call. Nasser is in the hospital with his daughter and we are here for Marium and her mother."
According to Siraj, Nasser was not in the house when the accident happened.
Accompanied by other family friends, Siraj said the two women are in critical condition with serious burns.
"Doctors are saying 50 per cent of their bodies are covered with serious burn injuries. There is nothing we can do except pray for them," said Siraj as the family members waited anxiously in the hospital.
He said the baby was guarded.
"It is all fate. What are the odds that their apartment goes on fire and while they suffer from serious injures, the baby survives."
