The Dubai Municipality has launched a new app containing a glossary of Emirati words. The smart app called 'Ramsatina' has an option for searching pronunciation in the local dialect, as well as the provision for adding new local words to it during the updating process

Ramsatina, which is an initiative of the Knowledge Management Department at the municipality, is the first smart app that has written and spoken options.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the initiative contains more than 3,900 words from the local terminology of the UAE.

The smart dictionary has been launched on phones so researchers can find the meaning of any word from the local dialect and even find out how to pronounce it.

"It also contributes to the profoundness of the knowledge in the Arabic language as the vocabulary of the local dialect in the country is at the heart of the classical Arabic language vocabulary," said Lootah.

The idea for the app came from Khalid Ali bin Zayed, a member of the Federal National Council.
