As many as 2,931 CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside 464 buildings in the emirate under the 'Himaya' or 'Protection' system.
The comprehensive surveillance system is being implemented under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, to enhance safety, security and stability in the emirate.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said 464 buildings have observed the law No. 3/2015 under the supervision of the RAK Police and the General Resources Authority.
"These entities include malls, shops, establishments, government departments, public institutions, mosques, hospitals, schools, hotels, rest houses, jewellery shops, villas as well as residential towers and buildings."
The cameras include 1,993 internal cameras and 938 external cameras. "This is a record achievement that reflects a complete awareness of the importance of the Himaya System."
Maj-Gen Nuaimi said the move is in line with a global scheme that depends on advanced technological systems to enhance security. "The new system helps detect and curb crimes and track and catch criminals in a record time."
Brigadier Jamal Ahmed Al Tair, Chairman of the General Resources Authority, RAK, said the authority had accredited 46 service providers for installation following nine intensive courses.
"We have also trained 171 engineers and technicians at the American University in RAK."
More courses are planned to train a new batch of service providers, engineers and technicians, he added.
