Sharjah - Residents can expect to see different light illuminations on 18 historical buildings

At 8pm on Wednesday, University City visitors and residents saw the historical buildings marking the area in a new light.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, marked the opening of the 8th Sharjah Light Festival.
It started with Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies that brightened up with breathtaking illuminations and colorful immersive light that told the story of development, history and heritage of life in the Arabian Gulf: The journey through time.

The spectacular initiation video mapping show was reflected on the eyes of amazed viewers and bystanders who walked away with inspiration and awe.
This was the beginning and official opening ceremony of the Festival that will cause the city to illuminate in a burst of a million colors. Residents can expect to see different light illuminations designed by 24 international and local artists on 18 historical buildings, government departments and structures of significance in Sharjah.
University City Hall, Al Noor Mosque, Sheikh Rashid Bin Ahmad Al Qassimi Mosque and the House of Justice, the Heart of Sharjah and University City are among the areas that break out into different shows of light.
The Sharjah Light Festival, which will continue until February 17, tells stories of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and significant moments that illuminate the cultural heritage of Sharjah and key historical moments in the Arab world.
The eighth edition of the festival includes a series of visual presentations inspired by science, creativity and knowledge. The shows will be accompanied by music played by elite musicians from across the globe and internationally renowned artists who will celebrate science, creativity and heritage in a display of lights and colours.
Organised by the Sharjah Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the festival saw about 700,000 visitors to the various sites last year.
The 11-day show will run from 6pm to 11pm on weekdays and 6pm to 12 midnight on weekends.
