A trip to UK and Dh10,000 award are being offered to students who could unleash their creativity in designing three-dimensional models.
A technology-based learning solutions firm has invited entries from students to enroll in the region's first 3D printing competition.
Inspired by the Innovation Week, ATLAB is organising Gulf 3D Printing Olympiad, for young people in Dubai.
The contest themed "Design your own consumer product" seeks participants to design and 3D print an innovative product, preferably that can help people in their everyday lives.
The competition is open to all students from the UAE aged between 10 and 25; with separate categories for aged 10-12, 13-15, 16-19 year-olds, and university students between 17 and 25.
Schools and universities can enter teams of one or two students and a coach.
Over the next few months ATLAB will be setting up printing centres for participants to print their designs at affordable rates.
Winners in each category will be given a 3D printer and a cash prize of Dh10,000, with runner-ups receiving 5,000.
The team that wins the "Best Innovative Project of the Year Award" will also win an all-expenses paid trip to an international 3D-printing show in the UK in September 2016.
Entries should be submitted by March 30, 2016, with the awards being presented at the grand finale of the competition in April 2016.
"This event is an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, innovative thinking and design skills, in designing advanced 3D models and successfully printing them out in a three-dimensional format," said S. Senthil Kugan, general manager of ATLAB.
"The event is inspired by the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. There is no better platform to inculcate this spirit than among the student community," he added.
"Design is an important part of innovation and technology has enabled us to use 3D printing to bring to life our unique concepts."
