What happened: Fire breaks out in a building in Dubai's Palm Jumeirah
After the evacuation, the British expat told the resident that there had been a fault in his machine and that triggered the fire.
The fire, which broke out on Monday night, spread quickly through the 15-storey building. Dubai Civil Defence arrived on the scene and the fire was put out around 2:00 am.
Faulty electronics are often reported to cause fires in the UAE. Residents are advised to check the condition of their appliances. These tips can help in avoiding fire incidents:

Make sure to disconnect everything before going to sleep

Or before leaving your house. An alternative to this is to turn off the switches of extension plugs and wall sockets.

Have your air-conditioning units checked often

Old air-conditioning units pose a great risk. Have certified technicians come and check whether you'll need to find a replacement or not.

Let appliances rest especially during summer

Air-conditioning units can be overworked during the summer months. Find time to turn them off. It could be as simple as going to the mall.

Keep electronics away from water

Especially in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Keep them away from faucets. Water could accidentally splash on them.
