Two 13-year-old girls have managed to memorise the Holy Quran in full as part of an intensive course run by Dar Al Ber Society at the Mamzar Quran study centre.

The young learners, Fatima Mahmoud Ali and Asma Ahmed Ali, who used to study the Holy Quran at a small class themed 'Young Memoriser' received accolades in a special ceremony.

Moza Naseeb, general coordinator of the 'Ber Qura Memorisation' project for women, said the three-year-old programme started with the last two parts of the Holy Quran during which young students learn the arts and rules of recitation.

"Having full command of this little start, the students were taught the first 10 parts of the Holy Quran from Al Nas (People) to Al Room (Romans) chapters in the first year of the course."

They were then taught more parts in the second year. This started from Al Ankabut (Spider) to Al Tawba (Repentance) chapters whereas the last third, also comprising 10 parts, started from Al Tawba to Al Baqra (Cow), she added. "This last phase took one year as well."

Later on, the two students fully revised memorisation of the Holy Quran for 2.5 years -- six parts every six months, following which a semiannual test was held, she elaborated. "Eight full memorisers are due to graduate from the programme this year."

Naseeb said the Mamzar Quran study centre has collected donation for carrying out a number of charity projects in the name of the young students. "The funds raised were specified for digging water well in Sudan, buying two water coolers in Indonesia, let alone the free Iftar meals and Eid clothes."

Up to 350 students were enrolled in Al Mamzar Quran study centre in 2014 while 12 of these have so far memorised the Holy Quran in full, she noted.
