The Pond Park project will soon open its doors to the public, Dubai Municipality officials announced on Tuesday.
Work on the Dh21 million project, located at Khawaneej-1, has officially been complete.
The park is classified as a sustainable park with zero energy as it uses solar energy to provide all of its electricity needs.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, added that the General Projects Department developed the park designs and elements after studying the requirements of the population in the area, as the project aims to utilise the area for a pond to collect rainwater.
Built at an area of 11.5 hectares with three main entrances, the park consists of an office building, wooden benches and umbrellas, as well as two children's play areas with rubberised flooring for different age groups (2 to 6 years old and 6 to 12 years old), a football court with artificial grass, chain link surrounding the park, trees, bushes, grass areas and seasonal flowers.
The park has taken into account the requirements of people with special needs in terms of choice of suitable games and ease of movement. It is divided into three sections - the pond area, the park's main area, and the play areas for adults. Safety factor has also been taken into consideration as a protection fence for the public, especially children, has been installed on the perimeter of the pond to protect them from falling into the pond.
