It took five hours to save the man, said Lt. Col. Ahmed Ateeq Bourguiba, deputy director of the search and rescue department.
The command and control of the general department of operations received a call at 8.15pm on Monday. The team, led by Captain Abdullah Al Rahoumi, swung into action and reached the incident site near ??Al Barsha 4. It used descent tools, rescue equipment and water suction devices in addition to light vehicles to save the man.
Lt. Col. Bourguiba explained that such operations require careful handling and it has to be ensured that the victim stays calm while he is being rescued.
The running groundwater in the pit made it difficult to reach the trapped victim and hindered the rescue operation. The man was finally evacuated and his condition is stated to be stable.
Lt. Col. Bourguiba added that rescue teams, the Dubai Civil Defense, Dubai ambulance services, and the Municipality of Dubai, and patrols police station Al Barsha carried out the exercise in tandem.
