Dubai Police have arrested Gulf News Editor-at-Large Francis Matthew, 60, for allegedly killing his wife Jane Matthew, 62, who was found dead in their home in Jumeirah, Dubai.
CID officials and an ambulance rushed to the site on Tuesday after Francis Matthew informed the Dubai Police Operations Room that his wife had suffered injuries, police officials said.
The police found him trying to revive her, but said that she did not respond. The police shifted her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The officials then referred her body to the General Department of Forensic Medicine, which found that the woman was hit by a sharp tool. Her body is still in the laboratory and will be handed over after completion of legal and administrative procedures, officials said.

The police launched an investigation and interrogated him and, on Wednesday, he was arrested for allegedly killing his wife Jane. Dubai Police said he confessed that he hit her with a sharp tool and that he did not mean to kill her. It is said that a dispute had erupted between the two.
Matthew was referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution for further investigation.

A UK Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Dubai on July 4 and are providing support to the family at this sad time."

"We are also providing support to a British national detained in Dubai."
Francis was Editor of the Dubai-based daily from 1995-2005.
Several of the UAE's British expats said on social media that they were saddened by Jane's death. The couple had been married for 32 years and were very active members of the UAE's British expat community.
Further details are awaited.
