Emiratis residing in remote areas will get books on various topics until Thursday under the 'Reading Convoy' initiative launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF).
The 'convoy' comprising delegation of foundation employees visit remote areas and distribute "knowledge bundles". The areas include Al Aweer, Al Habab and Hatta in Dubai, Falaj Al-Mu'alla, Murbah, Qidfa' and Dafna in Umm Al Quwain, as well as Zayed City and the Al Dhafra Region in Abu Dhabi and Dibba in Fujairah.
"The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) launched the 'Reading Convoy' initiative to support the National Reading Strategy, which designated March as the annual Month of Reading," said Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF. "The initiative is also part of the foundation's efforts to honour the Year of Giving 2017, which was announced by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to promote social responsibility in the emirates."
"This new initiative reaffirms the foundation's role as a leading vehicle for the production and dissemination of knowledge not only in Dubai, but in the entire UAE," Bin Huwaireb added.
"The Reading Convoy reaches out to Emirati families in remote areas across the country and offers them 'Knowledge Bundles' to educate all members of the family. The initiative also promotes volunteer work among our own employees, who are personally delivering these bundles to the families."
More than 3,000 bundles have been earmarked for distribution, and the Foundation is working to widen the area covered by the initiative in order to reach more villages and cities across the UAE.
This comes on the heels of the positive feedback the Foundation has received from the public, particularly on social media. The initiative promotes reading in the UAE and distributes the foundation's publications to all segments of society, which include international bestsellers translated into Arabic.
