Dubai - The award aims to contribute to the progress of the Arab media and encourage creativity in journalism.

In an era that fights fake news and political turmoil in the Arab region, 14 outstanding journalists across the Middle East were honoured on Wednesday for holding transparent and ethical coverage of events.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the Arab Journalism Award ceremony that marked a close to the 17th edition of the Arab Media Forum.
The award, which recognises media personalities in different specialities across the Arab World aims to contribute to the progress of the Arab media and encourage creativity in journalism. It also aims to familiarise people with the outstanding work and achievements of media professionals.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed presented the Media Personality of the Year Award to Nabeel Yacoob Al Hamar, advisor for information affairs to the King of Bahrain, in recognition of his eventful career and clear mark in the Arab media landscape.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, handed the Best Columnist Award to Egyptian Salah Montaser of Al Ahram newspaper for his column Just an Opinion where he tackles serious issues happening in the Arab World.
A tribute was also paid to Al Ahram's veteran journalist and former CEO Ibrahim Nafea who passed away at the age of 84 this year. Sheikh Mohammed presented a trophy to the family of the late writer as a tribute for his contribution to Arab media.
UAE-based Al Bayan newspaper won the Political Journalism award for extensively covering conflicts of the Middle East, including the Syrian war. Winners of this year's award were selected from 41 nominees across the 11 categories. The ceremony saw Emirati singer Hussain Al Jasmi sing a tribute to Palestine, with another tribute to the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Those present at the awarding ceremony included Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Arab Journalism Award secretary-general and AMF organising committee chairperson Mona Ghanem Al Marri, as well as a number of senior officials and Arab media personalities.
