The 21st edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) will start with rich culture programmes at different venues on Saturday night.
Popular scholar Dr Sheikh Omar Abdelkafy will launch the six-day public programme at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry with an inspiring lecture on 'God's blessing'.
Dr Mohammed Imam will begin the eight-day women-only programme with a lecture on the 'Final safe haven for man in the over-disturbed world' at the Dubai Women's Association, while Sheikh Sayyad Ibrahim Khalil is to start the nine-day foreign community programme with a lecture in Malayalam on 'Quranic version for the moderate society' on May 31.
The DIHQA organising committee has agreed with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), one of the main government co-sponsors of the event, to secure free parking spaces during the lectures and competition sessions.
Ahmed Al Zahid, Member of the Organising Committee and Head of the Media Unit, said that all the award activities will be telecast live. "Du subscribers can watch the award channel on the internet protocol (IPTV 20 and 653) or via du view free app, channel 1 that can be easily downloaded."
Al Zahid said that the Award, in collaboration with the Dubai Media Inc., launched the award channel on Thursday, and it will remain open during the entire holy month of Ramadan.
"The DIHQA sat channel can be watched on Nilesat Freq. (12418/H), Arabsat Bard 4 Freq. (12111/H), and Hotbird Freq. (11747/H)," he stated. "The Award activities can also be followed at Ch.28 of the Etisalat e-life network and du network."
All satellite channels, radio stations, and social media networks will be covering and posting the award activities while the public can watch the same on a big screen at the Dubai Chamber on the Dubai Creek, he elaborated.
Al Zahid thanked all mass media for their tireless effort in covering the award activities over the last 20 years. "The award is to come to a close with the concluding ceremony on Ramadan when the winners, arbitrators and Islamic personality are to be honoured."
For the first time ever, 100 full Quran memorisers from across the world are to compete in the global Quran competition held annually under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The DIHQA organising committee had earlier invited over 120 Islamic countries and foreign Islamic communities in Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia to participate in the Award this year, Al Zahid said.
"Aspirant participants need to perfectly memorise and eloquently recite the holy Quran in full, and should not be over 25 years old at the time of the contest which sees stiff competition from competent memorisers all over the globe."
"More details on the Award are available on (www.quran.gov.ae), he said. "The Award organising committee can be also reached by e-mail at (quran@eim.ae), or on the phone at (04-2610666)."
