Dubai charity donates Dh174m in nine months

Dubai - Beit Al Khair allowances are perfectly addressing an array of projects as per needs

Beit Al Khair Society, committed to the Year of Giving initiative, has spent over Dh174 million on a variety of charitable projects during the first nine months of the year.
Geared up for the Year of Zayed, the 28-year-old charity is planning to spend more to seamlessly mark the giving-without-limit legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed, which he has imparted to the Emirati society.
Official records show that up to 65,362 eligible families have benefited from these philanthropic projects up to the end of the third quarter of this year, according to Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, the general director of Beit Al Khair.
"These included 37,478 families registered with the society's four branches in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Fujairah.
"The remaining 27,884 families are registered with the Al Maktoum Foundation centres in Barsha, Aweer, Hatta, and Lisaili which fall under the management of the society as per a renewable partnership."
Beit Al Khair allowances are perfectly addressing an array of projects as per needs. The society expenditure on the low-income families programme amounted to Dh53 million by the end of September 2017, he added. "These included Dh27million spent on the society branches, while the total expenses on the same programme for the families under the Al Maktoum Foundation centres hit Dh25.91million.
The society further spent Dh20 million in emergency allowances for eligible families, Awadhi said. "These included Dh10.89million for the families who approached the society branches against Dh9.01million for those who sought help from the Al Maktoum Foundation centres."
As for the education sector, Beit Al Khair spent Dh5.6 million in support to the children of the low-income families registered with its branches and centres, he added.
The society also distributed basic foodstuff, worth Dh6.6 million, as an additional support to the people registered with its branches and centres, he said. "These are added to Dh8.8 million for defaulters, spanning Dh8.1 million against pending debts for 28 inmates who were released on the Eid Al Fitr."
Up to Dh4.4 million were spent on poor patients, Dh2.8 million as aids for several purposes, he said. "These are apart from the money spent on the Ramadan projects and during the feasts which recorded Dh69 million."
