Lawyer of two sisters, who were caught at the airport in possession of candies containing hashish, told a Dubai court that they carried the candies without knowing what was inside that.
The twin sisters from South Africa, aged 20, stood trial at the Court of First Instance on Monday.
They were arrested on July 11 at the Dubai International airport with visit visas. The police recovered 20 pieces of candy containing hashish (weighing 306.5 grams) from one of them while her sibling carried 19 candy pieces (wrapped in plastic and containing hashish weighing 297.5 grams).
When they appeared before the court, the sisters pleaded not guilty to charges of importing and possession of hashish for personal use, claiming they were not aware of what was inside the candies.
Their defence lawyer argued that they did not have any criminal intention since they were unaware of what the candies contained.
The court will pass a verdict on November 21.
