A carpenter stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday accused of attempted murder of his Afghani employer by hitting him with a stick on the head.
The incident took place on March 7 when the 26-year-old Pakistani accused attacked the other man, a shop owner, with a stick in the latter's shop in Naif area.
He denied the charge in court claiming he did not mean to kill him and that both assaulted each other.
A 26-year-old Afghani businessman said during investigation that at around 11pm, as he was about to close his shop, he heard screaming and commotion in an adjacent shop.
"I saw the shop owner lying down with his face covered with blood. I saw the accused standing next to him with a broom stick in his hand".
The witness told the people to call the ambulance. "The police arrived shortly later and arrested the accused. The victim was then rushed to the hospital," he told the prosecutor.
According to the forensic report, the blow to the victim's head could have been deadly. It left the victim with a permanent injury which should be examined about six months later to tell how serious it is.
The medical report released from the hospital, where the victim received treatment, said he stayed there for several months and underwent surgeries mainly to clear blood clots.
The carpenter admitted to the assault charge in the interrogation and investigation.
The trial has been adjourned to December 18.
