A 20-year-old cook, who allegedly pretended he was interested in taking a selfie with a woman inside a lift before showering her with kisses and lowering her trousers, denied a sexual assault charge.
The Egyptian man pleaded not guilty in the Court of First Instance and claimed the woman dropped her complaint against him.
The incident, as told by the Mexican woman to the public prosecution, happened on May 29 and was reported to Al Rashidiyah police.
The 26-year-old woman, a manager, said the man took the lift together with her in the building where she stayed.
"It was around 11:40 pm. He tried at first to initiate a conversation with me. He pretended he wanted to take a selfie with me but I did not let him".
She continued by saying that as she tried to get out of the lift, he suddenly lowered her trousers, touched her inappropriately while kissing her face and lips more than five times against her will.
She was referred to undergo a forensic examination and was found to have suffered minor bruises while trying to get away from him.
The defendant admitted a sexual harassment charge during the investigation.
The court will hand down a verdict on August 31.
