The Dubai Police have arrested a Bangladeshi man who killed a compatriot woman and fled the country in 2014. The police had been chasing him for the past one year and eight months.
He was arrested on September 3 in Qatar, and brought to Dubai on Septmeber 9 by the interpol after providing evidences and details of the murder.
On January 5 last year, the operations room of the Dubai Police received information about a dead body lying in a sandy area in the Jebel Ali investment compound. The police rushed to the site and found the body of a 35-year-old Bangladeshi identified as S.B. and strangled using a scarf.
An Arab witness told the police that they found the body while they were working at the construction site.
Two gloves and cans of soft drinks were found within a 300-metre distance. The police soon launched an investigation and learnt the whereabouts of the woman and found that she had illegal relations with a Bangladeshi man named Mohammed Dodo.
Police investigation revealed that he was involved in the murder of the woman who had threatened to leave him.
The suspect soon after resigned from his work and left the country. The police continued investigations for more than a year and learnt that the suspect had travelled to Qatar.
The Dubai Police in coordination with the Qatar Police arrested him despite the fact that he had changed his passport under the name of Didi Hayat.
During interrogation, the man admitted that the woman was introduced to him by his friend Mamoon. On the fateful day, the two of them took a cab, bought soft drinks and reached the Jebel Ali investment compound where they had sex.
The woman later asked the man to give her Dh500, but he refused and gave her only Dh200. She then got angry and threatened to leave him.
The man then got angry and strangled her with her scarf. He then took her phone and went to his room in a labour accommodation. He informed his friend, Mamoon, about what had transpired. Mamoon advised him to leave the country and he did just that and entered Qatar with another passport.
On September 9, the Dubai Police also arrested the second suspect, Mamoon, for not informing the police about the crime. However, he told the police that he did not have any part in the crime.
Both suspects have been referred to the Dubai public prosecution on charges of murder.
