A 20-year-old cook, who molested a woman while pretending to take a selfie with her has been given a suspended jail term of six months.
The Egyptian man approached the woman inside a lift before kissing her and lowering her trousers.
He earlier pleaded not guilty to a sexual assault charge in the Court of First Instance and claimed the woman had dropped her complaint against him.
The court ordered that he be deported.
The incident, as told by the Mexican woman to the public prosecution, happened on May 29 and a report was filed at Al Rashidiyah police.
The 26-year-old woman, a manager, said during the investigation the man took the lift together with her in the building where she stayed.
"It was around 11:40 pm. At first he tried to initiate a conversation with me. He pretended he wanted to take a selfie with me but I did not let him".
She added that as she tried to get out of the lift, he suddenly lowered her trousers, touched her inappropriately while kissing her against her will.
The woman was referred to undergo a forensic examination and was found to have suffered minor bruises while trying to get away from him. The defendant admitted to a sexual harassment charge during the investigation.
