A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in jail for consuming hashish and other narcotics and driving his car under the influence of drugs.
The Emirati, M.A has also been accused of recklessly driving his car and hitting and damaging another car.
The Court of First Instance convicted him of consuming hashish and driving under the influence of drugs and damaging others' property. The case dates back to September 12, last year.
A police sergeant said in the investigation that the Dubai police operation room was informed about a traffic accident in Al Muraqqabat. "When I went to the accident scene I realised it was the defendant's fault".
The sergeant said in the investigation that when he asked M.A. about some details related to the accident he noticed that he was not in good shape. "He did not seem normal. I asked him if he was sick and he claimed that he suffered from mental illness and was taking medication."
The sergeant then called the anti-narcotics officers. "His car was later searched and some pills were found. M.A. was then taken into custody".
M.A.'s urine sample contained traces of hashish and other types of narcotics, as per the crime lab's report. The verdict may be appealed within 15 days.
