Man held for raping visiting friend

Dubai - The police referred the woman to hospital for treatment and medical checkup.

An Arab man was arrested by the Dubai Police on Friday for allegedly raping a Latin American woman, who was his longtime friend.
The woman, identified as R.M., told the police that she came to Dubai on a visit visa and has been living in a hotel. She was in a relationship with the suspect, identified as A.M., for the past 11 years and she came to Dubai upon his invitation.
She told the Rashidiyah Police that the suspect visited her in the hotel room around 9am and tried to kiss her. When she refused it, he sexually assaulted her and left to Abu Dhabi, she told the police .
The police referred the woman to hospital for treatment and medical checkup. Later, the suspect was arrested at a parking lot in the Dubai Marina.
During the police interrogation, he said that he met the woman in his country as she worked as plastic surgeon and they were in a relation. He planned to marry her, but due to difference in faith, it didn't happen. However, they continued the relationship and were in touch on social media.
According to the suspect's version, she told him that she wanted to come to Dubai. As he was busy, he gave her his credit card number and she booked an airline ticket using it. He claimed that he didn't even know at which hotel she was staying and he just met her at the Chinese souq. The suspect has been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
