An Arab youth has been arrested for allegedly harassing a European woman while she was crossing an underpass on Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Colonel Ahmed Saif bin Zaytoon Al Muhairi, director of The Capital Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police said the suspect was zeroed in after being alerted about the incident.
A task-force was set-up consisting of patrolling and investigation officials in the area who after reviewing the video tapes of the CCTV cameras installed on roads leading to the venue where the accident took place managed to zero-in on the suspect.
"On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the charges of stalking the woman and harassing her", the police press release said. He was later referred to the court to stand trial for the charges pressed against him.
Colonel Al Muhairi said such acts are alien to our society and are regarded as insulting to the intrinsic social values, customs, traditions and breaching of others' privacy.
He also said that the police have the resources and hi-tech equipment including monitoring devices to curb such immoral acts and deter the perpetrators.
They cannot get away with their unacceptable behaviour, he added.
