Ajman forum raises traffic awareness

As part of its efforts to implement the strategy of the Ministry of Interior to ensure traffic safety, the Ajman Police on Wednesday organised Traffic Safety Forum aimed at raising traffic awareness among public.
Brig Gaith Al Zabbi, Director-General of Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, said 45 per cent of the total UAE population have driving licences. "The number of cars registered in 2015 reached 3,201,726 which increases annually by 10 per cent," he said.
He highlighted the experience of the Ministry of Interior in ensuring traffic safety, saying that ensuring safety is one of the challenges governments around the world face. "Traffic accidents cause death to over 1.25 million people and injuries to 20 million to 50 million people.
Brig Al Zabbi said  in the UAE, the Ministry of Interior gave traffic safety top priority in its federal strategy since 2008.
Major Saif Al Falasi, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrol with the Ajman Traffic Department, said the department has recently installed 44 radars, including 21 mobile radars. As many as 69 traffic lights and 113 advanced cameras were also installed as part of its project, Ajman a Safe City.
