Ajman Crown Prince sets up panel to monitor water contamination-hit residents

Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, has issued a directive to form a committee comprising officials from police, municipality, medical zone and the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Centre in Ajman to follow-up the health condition of those affected by water contamination in Horizon Towers and complete the investigation soon. The directive spelled out the importance of having expats to ensure corrective measures.
Sheikh Ammar also ordered the authorities to complete water laboratory testing and evaluation and submit the detailed report within a week. He instructed to put in place precautionary measures so that such unfortunate incidents do not happen again, while asking authorities to provide residents safety and comfort.
He also directed the committee to meet the daily water needs of the people hit by the contamination and restore the water supply after ensuring it's safe for consumption.
All the affected tenants were discharged from hospital. Most of them chose to stay in hotels or with their relatives in various emirates, while some decided to buy water bottles from supermarkets.
Prateek Talukdar, a tenant in one of the buildings, said they had to stay in a hotel due to lack of water and will go back when the supply  is completely restored. "We are expecting the water to be supplied to tenants by today (Monday) evening," he said.
Water tanks cleaned, sterilised
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Major-General Sultan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of the Ajman Police, said that cleaning and sterilisation of the water tanks and the pipes has been completed in the residential towers, where the water contamination had left 191 tenants sick.
He added that the water is expected to be restored in the towers after conducting the necessary analysis of the supply, after the disconnection yesterday.
Major-General Al Nuaimi confirmed that the analysis conducted today proved that the restored water supply is safe.
The water will be pumped by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority into three lower tanks to be lifted in the upper tanks in four residential buildings. He stressed that the water supply will be restored by today evening.
He explained that the company that manages the residential towers has been direced to provide drinking water to the affected residents. This morning, the Ajman Police distributed 5,000 cartons of water to the tenants of the tower.
