Abu Dhabi will soon be witnessing a mega-event on communications and leadership skills, the District-20 Toastmasters Annual Conference 2016 (DTAC 2016).
Toastmasters International (TMI) is a non-profit educational organisation that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. The organistion is popular in the UAE with people from all nationalities and ages joining in. The clubs with various chapters meets once every fortnight at different places.
Announcing the event, Dr Sultan Al Hajji, DTAC 2016 Chairman, said the programmes are spread over a three day-period from May 26 to 28 at the Zayed University Convention Centre, Abu Dhabi.
District-20 covers a large part of the Middle East with over 354 clubs and membership exceeding 10,000 covering Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the UAE. The organisers are looking forward to welcoming over 1,200 delegates and guests from several GCC countries and other parts of the globe.

UAE citizen Lt. Colonel Mohammed Murad was the first Arab to become Toastmasters International President in the 2014-2015 term. At the 2013 Toastmasters International Convention held at Cincinnati, Ohio, another Emirati, Shurooq Al Banna won the third place in the world championship of public speaking with her speech 'Finding the Pearl.'
While focusing on bringing out the best speaking talents at the DTAC, the organisers also aspire to exhibit and showcase the city of Abu Dhabi, its culture and rich heritage. Dr. Sultan said that they expect to garner support of business houses and philanthropists for the success of this event, which will place Abu Dhabi on the world map as a centre of communication and leadership.
Toastmasters all over the world and in particular in the Middle East, said Dr Sultan, comprise a very diverse mix of ethnicities, faiths and nationalities, all getting together with a great spirit of mutual respect and tolerance.
The DTAC tagline 'Simply one Voice' reflects this spirit of oneness and the spirit of tolerance which the government is also seeking to promote as a fundamental value in the UAE.
