Six people were injured in a pile-up involving 25 vehicles on the Abu Dhabi - Al Ain road at Al Khazna area early on Monday morning due to poor visibility and dense fog.
The injured people, who were in stable condition, received first aids on the spot and were then shifted to the Tawam hospital in Al Ain for treatment and medical care.
Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhahiri, director general of the central operations, Abu Dhabi Police, said they immediately dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, and paramedics to the site when alerted of the accident.
"The Abu Dhabi Al Ain road was closed down, the traffic was diverted to the Suwaihan road, the injured were given first aids and shifted to the hospital, and the arterial road was cleared of the wreckage to avoid more pile-ups."
The 25-vehicle pile-up took place exactly after the Ramah station to the West before the Khazna Bridge due to the dense fog and poor visibility, he explained. "Six people received several injuries, but their conditions are stable."
Initial enactment show that the pile-up was blamed on the speeding drivers who were not cautious enough on the road and failed to observe the traffic rules in such foggy conditions, he underlined. "Most of the drivers ignore safety space and were speeding."
Urging, he said all drivers need to closely stick to traffic rules and regulations in such conditions, particularly during foggy weather in the morning, Brig Al Dhahiri said. "Low lights and suitable speed are advised in such conditions."
