The Economic Development Department in Abu Dhabi has ordered all commercial facilities operating in the emirate not to collect any additional fees on credit card transactions.
The department deemed this practice as illegal, pointing out that a fine of up to Dh 8,000 would be slapped against the errant establishment.
A decision to this effect was issued by the higher committee for consumer protection of Abu Dhabi Economic Development Department to prevent commercial facilities from collecting additional fees when a customer pays or makes a transaction by his/her credit card.
If caught for the first time, the establishment will get a warning. If the violation is repeated, a fine of Dhs4,000 is slapped, which will go up to Dh6,000 for the third time, and Dhs8,000 for the fourth time.
