The Abu Dhabi Municipality recently issued fines on eight labour accommodation complexes for poor maintenance.
Accommodations for workers must meet health, safety and environment (HSE) standards, no matter whether they are temporary or permanent accommodations, said the municipality.
The civic body, which launched a crackdown on poorly maintained worker accommodations in Al Shahama area, said it "spotted eight violations at workers' accommodations, and issued fine as they pose a threat to the safety of workers and the community".
This ongoing campaign comes as part of plans of the inspection team, aimed to mandate businesses to ensure the highest standard of living for labourers so as to reduce accidents and maintain their health and safety.
The municipality said that non-compliance with the HSE standards would undermine the safety of persons and properties.
To further prevent violations at workers' accommodations, the municipality asked the owners of companies that provide workers' lodgings to observe HSE standards and adhere to the concerned rules.
The civic body said it is striving to promote the sense of responsibility by calling on all stakeholders to cooperate in order to ensure a safe living environment in line with the regulations.
