10 street vendors fined, products confiscated

Abu Dhabi - The violations were identified during an inspection campaign to control random and unlicensed markets

The Abu Dhabi Municipality has issued a warning to illegal street vendors following the seizure of three tonnes of unlicensed foodstuff and other products, and the fining of 10 vendors.
The municipality said the violations were identified during an inspection campaign to control random and unlicensed markets, according to the required standards in Al Wathba and Al Rais.
The municipality said that during the campaign, the joint teams confiscated items in the market, comprising three tonnes of consumables, foodstuffs, clothing, various commodities, fruits and vegetables. Useable materials such as food were also donated to be handed over for charity.
"People should deter from selling foodstuff in undesignated areas and without licences to protect people's health," said municipal officials.
Municipal officials urged all community members to abide by the laws on the regulation of foodstuff trading. "Community members are urged to refrain from dealing with these casual markets, due to the lack of public health and safety requirements, knowledge of the source of the materials offered, in addition to endangering the health and safety of consumers," said the officials.
