Residents here may now breathe a sigh of relief as work on more than half of the internal roads of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah have been completed.
The roads, all in the bedouin districts and outskirts, have been developed either by the Abu Dhabi Municipality or the department of public works and services of Ras Al Khaimah.
However, the residents have urged the bodies concerned to complete the pavement work of the internal roads, light them up, and connect them with the major roads of the emirate to ease their suffering.
"These final touches are important mainly because now the rainy season is approaching, and if roads remain half-done or muddy they can cause become slippery and dangerous," said Ali Saeed, an Emirati staying in Al Rams area.
Official sources at the department, in response, said that more internal roads will be developed by next year. "All the roads are being built and developed at the old and new districts as per the latest and highest standards."
A well-connected rainwater drainage network has been put in place in all the internal roads to avoid any waterlogging.
Essam Sameer, a resident of Sham area, said the development of the internal roads must be done as per the latest standards to endure the heavy showers. "Otherwise, it will be washed away as happened with some roads in nearby districts."
Ahmed Saeed, resident of Al Rams area, said they are hopeful that all the internal roads will be paved and developed soon.
