Massive fires, which broke out in Ajman and Sharjah during the Eid holidays, have destroyed 24 warehouses causing huge loss to properties. However, no casualties were reported from both emirates.
In Ajman, the fire gutted 12 warehouses in Industrial Area 13, a plastic factory in Al Hamriyah and furniture factory in Al Jarf Industrial Area on Monday night.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig. Abdull Aziz Al Shamsi, deputy director of Ajman Civil Defence, said that fire fighters from Al Jarf and Al Rumaila fire stations and neighbour emirate Umm Al Quwain, contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby warehouses and factories.
The site will be handed over to the police and forensic experts to determine the cause of the fire.
Also on Monday night, a fire erupted in a plastic factory located in Al Hamriya Port in Sharjah.
In another fire on Monday, 12 warehouses were gutted after a huge fire broke out in the industrial area 13 near National Paints on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road in Sharjah.
According to officials, poor fire safety measures and storing inflammable materials without adequate precautions have led to the fire incidents.
The civil defence authorities in both the emirates urged owners of workshops, factories and warehouses to follow the fire protection regulations to avoid loss of lives and properties. They will also intensify inspections of warehouses to ensure whether the companies are following fire safety rules. The authorities warned errant companies will face tough fine for violations.
