Relations between the UAE and India will be catapulted to a higher plane, as His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, starts his three-day visit to India today. Coming barely six months after the visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the UAE - the first by an Indian premier in over three decades - the visit by Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed is being seen as the start of a new era in relations between the two countries.
Both the UAE and India are islands of stability in politically an economically volatile regions of the world. And at a time when countries in both the developed and emerging markets are witnessing sluggish (or even negative) growth, India and the UAE are growing at reasonable rates above seven per cent and above three per cent, respectively).
And underlining the significance of the visit by Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed to India is the fact that he is accompanied by seven ministers and 60 entrepreneurs. The delegation includes 40 UAE-based non-resident Indian (NRI) businessmen and 20 Emirati entrepreneurs. The business community in the UAE expects a significant boost in trade ties between the two countries at the end of the three-day visit.
