Foggy Days Are Here Again
Anwar AhmadABU DHABI - Thick fog covered the Abu Dhabi International Airport on Saturday morning reducing visibility level to 100 metres, an official at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said.The fog, however, lifted around 10.30am, the duty forecaster said.
The north-westerly winds coming from the Gulf and stable wind conditions had led to the formation of fog.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports have technology which enables planes to land even in low visibility.
Fog at the airport, where the centre is based, and in Dubai and other emirates during the weekend, marked the beginning of the weather when high humidity, fog and rain are more common.
Visibility levels in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain on Saturday morning, too, dropped by 100 while in Sharjah it was about 400 metres around 9am. Motorists and fishermen were advised to prepare themselves for foggy conditions.
The weather office urged motorists to drive cautiously as low visibility due to fog is expected on Sunday and Monday in different parts of the country.
The visibility level might be reduced to almost 100 metres on Sunday, too.
The official warned motorists to take precautions while driving, particularly at night and in the early morning hours.
Fishermen also have been warned not to venture out far into the sea as visibility level could be low.
In unavoidable situations, they have been asked to carry with them all the necessary tools that might come handy in emergency situations.
The foggy weather will begin to improve on Monday evening and clear up on Tuesday, the official said.
