Amira AgaribDUBAI — A man was killed on Monday after he reversed his car accidentally into a new water canal off Al Khail road in Dubai.
Captain Yahya Hussien Mohammed, head of Sea Rescue at the Rescue Department of Dubai Police, said the accident happened at 5.30pm when the 46-year-old Egyptian man, who was working in a company in Business Bay, tried to move his car.
He had parked it in front of a barrier around the water canal. However, he accidentally reversed too far, pushing the clutch peddle instead of the brake.
A number of people who were around dived into the canal and tried to rescue the man.
They managed to pull him out of the car after which the police ambulance rushed him to the hospital but could not save his life.
The police rescue teams and a number of divers helped lift the car from the water.
