MUSCAT — Artists in Oman, both nationals and expatriates, are invited to take part in a very special and first-of-its-kind competition – to paint a portrait of the country’s ruler.

The contest is planned as a tribute to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the occasion of the sultanate’s 39th National Day on November 18.

The winner of the ‘Best Portrait’, which will be presented to Sultan Qaboos, will receive a cash reward of RO3,000.

The other prizes are being finalised, organisers of the competition, the Oman Society for Fine Arts (OSFA) and BankMuscat, said.

The ‘Qaboos Oman’ contest was launched at a ceremony here on Monday evening presided over by Mohammed bin Al Zubair, Adviser to Sultan Qaboos for Economic Planning Affairs.
