Kencana Petroleum Berhad was established
from years of excellent track records of its two major
wholly-owned subsidiaries, Kencana HL Sdn Bhd and Kencana
Bestwide Sdn Bhd.
Kencana HL, formerly known as H.L Engineering (M) Sdn
Bhd, was established in 1982 as a resident contractor
for major fabrication yards in Malaysia. Founded by
Chong Hin Loon, Kencana HL began operating its Lu mut
Fabrication Yard in 2000. The initial yard size of 11
acres was subsequently expanded and upgraded to 53 acres
in 2005.
In 2002, Kencana HL was awarded a Major Fabrication
(Offshore Structures) license by Petronas which allows
KencanaHL to undertake the fabrication of major offshore
structures and facilities for the oil and gas industry
in Malaysia. Since then, Kencana HL has been awarded
with EPCC and EPCIC projects, both in the domestic and
international front.
Furthermore, Kencana HL has completed the refurbishment
and conversion of an innovative mobile offshore production
unit and is currently constructing the self elevating
and relocatable platform and subsea structures for its
overseas clients. All these facilities are the first
of its kind to be constructed in Malaysia.
Kencana Bestwide, formerly known as Best Wide Matrix
Sdn Bhd, incorporated in 1995, was established as a
major provider of engineering services focusing on the
oil and gas industry. The founders of KencanaBestwide
— Cher Lee kiat and Tan Siew Lee — who joined
the company in 1996, are the key figures who played
an important role in the successful development of the
company.
In 2005, Kencana HL and Kencana Bestwide were brought
together as wholly-owned subsidiaries of Kencana Petroleum.
Since then, Kencana Petroleum has seen the tremendous
synergies from the complementary expertise and capabilities
of Kencana I-LL and Kencana Bestwide.
