INSTITUT JANTUNG NEGARA
|
|
Heart care centre of repute
|
|
HOSPITALS and
medical centres have never been a place where
one would like to be seen anytime willingly. Yet there
are some places that invoke a strong sense of security
and warmth. These are the exceptions. Institut Jantung
Negara- or IJN - as the the national heart care institute
of Malaysia is more popularly known is one such institution
which has carved a very special place for itself in
heart care management. Every year thousands walk into
the IJN- seeking cure to a variety of heart ailments
and indeed walk out with a smile.

IJN - in Malaysia,
is synonymous to health care of the heart, and to a
lot of Middle East residents it could be a boon. The
culture, ethnicity, and food habits and above all the
warmth and love of the staff, is all a welcome change.
With health sector in Malaysia booming IJN is making
its mark in the Asian region with its path breaking
firsts. For many in Middle-East the year 2007 could
be just the impetus to enjoy the Malaysian comforts,
and yet attend to few personal health needs on a vacation.
From humble beginnings in July 1992, IJN was the only
corporatised medical service in Malaysia. Today IJN
consists of a team of 35 consultants, 29 specialists,
13 fellows, 8 medical officers. This competent team
of cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists,
paramedic staff, and support staff handle all routine
procedures and complicated cases successfully.
The IJN - advantage in heart care is best reflected
in its services and specialised heart care which comprises
of Inpatient services, Cardiology Services, and Cardiothoracic
Surgeries.
These specialised services encompass management of unstable
angina, heart attacks, invasive procedures, diagnostics
(angiograms) Therapeutic procedures (Angioplasty. RFA).

"Personalised care, experienced
staff and Halal food is an advantage IJN offers to Middle
East residents seeking medical advice"

Surgical procedures
in heart care like open heart surgery, closed heart
surgery, thoracic surgery, heart transplant, lung transplant,
have all been managed with a high ratio of success.
The institute has not only been instrumental in bringing
Malaysia in the forefront of heart care, facilities
but it has also contributed in training cardiologists,
cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthetists in Malaysia.
It has also assisted in training more than 50 doctors
from 14 countries.
The prime motive of the institute being heart care its
been extending the best cardiovascular and thoracic
care to its patients-and as a corporate entity is committed
to provide excellent health services.
According to the Medical Director Dr. Dato' Seri Robaayah
Zambahari “we have a sound track record in utilising
effective and modern methods to deliver a consistently
high quality of service." She further adds "our
physicians are keenly involved in Cardiac research and
they proactively apply their findings to improve IJN's
standards of treatment.”
No doubt therefore IJN's recent firsts include performing
the first (in the country and south east Asia) coronary
bypass surgeries, and the complex thymectomy procedure
on conscious or "awake patients" without general
anaesthesia. The institute was further responsible for
the first bone marrow transplantation with severe ischemic
heart disease who had no other treatment options.
Alliances and smart partnerships with other hospitals
have also enabled IJN's medical professionals to hone
their skills. Through collaborations with leading international
medical centres IJN s specialists have been able to
keep abreast with the latest from the world over and
hence the patients at IJN have had a resultant direct
benefit from the same. IJN has also embarked on a very
ambitious expansion programme of Dh200 million. This
would be utilised in upgrading, and renovating the infrastructure.
Notable new additions would include the five paediatric
clinics, 10 clinics to cater to the outpatient department,
two invasive cardiovascular labs, two fully equipped
operation theatres, one cathterisation OT wards, one
rehabilitation ward and landscaped therapeutic garden.
To most in Malaysia IJN is a source of new life and
its international standards of excellence and patient
care makes the task even more compatible as this comes
at a cost which is significantly lower than the West.
No doubt when it comes to the matter of the heart IJN
can take over as the true partner of life giving therapeutic
service and heart care.
