KT photos by Juidin Bernarrd / 10 February 2013 The earlier the better ... for learning certain skills, at least. Swimming is one such skill that could be acquired even before one learns to walk or talk. And that could be as early as four months. The Active Sports Academy is one institution that helps little ones achieve this in Dubai. If worried parents feared that their child would drown when placed in the water, swimming instructor for babies, Louise, vouches that they won’t. In fact, doing so with proper assistance from parents will help the babies — they will lose the fear of water, and it aids the development of balance, coordination and strength. They also love to splash around. By two years, most of them would have learnt to swim. It could help bring down incidents of drowning of children in pools, as have happened in the emirates recently. The academy, sponsored by Mothercare, runs swimming lessons for different age groups of children beginning from four to 12 months under a programme called Water Babies. KT photographer Juidin Bernarrd, who attended sessions for three age groups, captures the fleeting moments. - juidin@khaleejtimes.com
